St. George Lighthouse, located on a small island off Apalachicola,
was nearly toppled in storms following Hurricane Andrew and in an
effort to save this historical structure, the U.S. Coast Guard called
upon Carr Engineering & Construction, Inc. to design and implement
a temporary fix for the Lighthouse.
The Lighthouse is only accessible by boat and materials used for
the stabilization would have to be ferried by boat to the site.
Further complicating the work, high winter tides made access on
the Gulf side impossible and materials would have to be trucked
across the island from the bayside. A stabilization method was designed
and constructed and the Lighthouse remains awaiting permanent repair.
